If you want, use mild cheese or grated cheese. Mozzarella or cheddar cheese is the best for cheese balls. Use soft cheese for the best texture. Avoid hard cheese, as soft cheese will make the texture much nicer after frying.

Ingredients for Cheese Ball Recipe

  1. Potatoes: Of course, you need potatoes. I use medium-sized russet potatoes, about 3 of them. You can use other types of potatoes if you want.
  2. Cheese: Cheese is the main ingredient for cheese balls. I use 1 cup of grated mozzarella cheese. You can also use other types of cheese or cheese cubes cut into tiny pieces and use them in the centre of the balls.
  3. Mixed Vegetables: Potatoes are the main vegetable, but I also add 2 tablespoons of red and green bell peppers, 1 tablespoon of chopped coriander leaves, and 1/4 teaspoon of chopped green chillies. The colourful vegetables make the cheese balls flavour and visually appealing.
  4. Garlic: 1 teaspoon of chopped garlic for added flavour.
  5. Salt and Black Pepper: Use salt and black pepper to taste. Add a small amount of salt since the cheese is already salty, and use Italian seasoning for extra flavour.
  6. Corn Flour and Rice Flour: I use rice flour and corn flour for binding and to make the cheese balls extra crispy.
  7. Breadcrumbs: Breadcrumbs are used to coat the cheese balls.
  8. Oil: For frying.

How to Make Cheese Balls

Making cheese balls is very easy. Just follow my instructions:

  1. First, take a large bowl and boil the potatoes until they are tender. Let the boiled potatoes cool, then peel and mash them well, making sure there are no lumps.
  2. Once the potatoes are mashed, add the colourful vegetables, salt, black pepper, Italian herbs, chopped green chillies, chopped garlic, coriander leaves, and grated cheese. Mix well with your hands until all the ingredients are combined.
  3. Shape the mixture into small balls. You can make the cheese balls small or large, using a measuring scoop or ice cream scoop for uniform size.
  4. In a medium bowl, mix rice flour and corn flour with water and a pinch of salt. Whisk until smooth, without lumps.
  5. In another bowl, add breadcrumbs and some extra seasoning like chilli flakes and oregano for flavour. Coat the cheese balls with the breadcrumbs, making sure all the balls are well coated. Then, dip them in the rice and corn flour mixture, and coat them again with breadcrumbs for double crumbing to make them extra crispy.
  6. Heat oil in a large pan. When the oil is hot, fry the cheese balls until they are golden brown and crispy. Remove the cheese balls and place them on paper towels to soak up any extra oil.
  7. Finally, the cheese balls are ready to eat! Serve them hot with tomato ketchup, sour yogurt, and some salad.
