  • Garlic powder: 1 teaspoon of garlic powder for added flavour.

  • Onion powder: 1/2 teaspoon of onion powder.

  • Black pepper and salt: Use black pepper and salt to taste.

  • Cheddar cheese: I use cheddar cheese (optional) because my family loves cheese.

  • All-purpose flour: 2 tablespoons of all-purpose flour for crispiness.

  • Olive oil: 1 tablespoon of olive oil to brush on the tater tots.

How To Make Tater Tots

Homemade tater tots are easy to make, especially when using a microwave or air fryer, and they take very little time. Follow these steps to make them:

  1. First, preheat the microwave to 204°C. Line a baking sheet with aluminium foil and drizzle with 1 tablespoon of oil.
  2. Prepare the potatoes by peeling and cutting them into 1-inch chunks. Clean the potato chunks and transfer them to a large bowl. Grate the potatoes with a chopper until finely chopped. Transfer the chopped potatoes to a cheese towel and squeeze out the excess water. Once drained, transfer them back to the bowl and parboil for 5 minutes. Let them cool.
  3. Sprinkle the salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, grated cheddar cheese, all-purpose flour, and fresh parsley over the potatoes. Mix well until combined. The mixture will be sticky, so use a spatula.
  4. Shape the mixture into small tots about 3 inches wide and 1 inch long. Place them on the oiled baking sheet, using oily hands to shape them if needed.
  5. Bake the tater tots in the preheated oven until crispy and golden brown, about 10 to 15 minutes. Flip them carefully, brush with more oil, and bake for another 10 to 15 minutes until both sides are golden brown.
  6. Remove from the oven and serve warm with tomato ketchup, mayonnaise, or other sauces of your choice.
